Counselor Michelle Brown, LAC

I’m Michelle, a Licensed Associate Counselor under the supervision of Dr. Michael James.  I’ve received my Master’s Degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and have been in the field for over five years.  One of my main areas of focus includes working with divorcees and single parents to assist them with navigating their new reality without a partner, along with helping them to develop coping skills and resources to manage the stressors that come with that major life change. I also work with young and middle-aged adults during their school and career transitions.  Choosing the right career path can have a major impact on our well-being and mental health, so it is important that I explore that with clients who need support in that area.  Some additional areas of focus include (but are not limited to) working through depression, anxiety, and grief and assisting clients with developing their self-worth, communication, coping, and relationship skills.

Clients come to counseling at different levels of development and self-discovery.  My aim is to meet my clients where they are in their journey and assist them with creating and meeting the goals they have set for themselves.  I enjoy working with clients from all cultural and ethnic backgrounds, and my goal is to walk my clients through navigating life from their own worldview.  In order to meet my clients’ needs, I incorporate therapeutic approaches that include Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Person-Centered Therapy, Solution Focused Therapy, and Psychodynamic Therapy.

I know that for many, taking the steps to get therapy is a huge one, and I don’t take that lightly.  In fact, I feel honored when my clients choose to go on that journey with me.  The process can be intimidating but also so transformative at the same time.  Being comfortable and happy with where you are in life is an option for everyone, no matter your circumstances, and I’d love to help you get there in this season of life.
